CCF Ex Cairngorms Venturer (5) was a great success thanks to a) the superb winter mountaineering conditions in the Cairngorms - the best for 30 years, b) the hospitality of RAF Kinloss (what a sumptuous Officer's Mess!) c) the support from 20 (Guernsey's Own) Squadron who provided a practical insight into the workings of an active Nimrod Sqn and c) the commitment of the cadets to go that extra mile in grasping opportunities beyond the pier heads!
Particular highlights;
Nimrod flight simulator - a multi million pound 'bit of kit'
Nimrod sonar detection simulator - impressive technology indeed
UK National Air and Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre - we saw a real time EPIRB alert
Glenmore Lodge National Mountaineering Centre winter hazards lecture
Ascents of Cairngorm, the plateau and Castle Hill in superb winter anticyclone conditions.
Visit to RAF Lossiemouth (617 (Dam busters) Sqn - Tornado fast jets
'The Team Works'; 'Rise above the Rest'; 'Be the Best'. These are not merely mottos, they can be seen in action on the CCF exercises.
